Opening comment

This first line has got to go: "In essence, the museum began as a place where these men could store and display skins and other trophies of their travels to Africa and Asia."

That's like saying, "after a rich and storied history all we have left once everything has been sold off are a bunch of trophies. We are going to completely ignore the everything else."

Early history needs a bit beefing up. Read "In essence, the museum began as a place where these men could store and display skins and other trophies of their travels to Africa and Asia.

Read " THE RISE AND FALL OF THE BOSTON SOCIETY OF NATURAL HISTORY by Johnson, Richard I" for starters. MBCF (talk) 23:53, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

=Cloud chamber=

In the historical exhibits section:

"In the 1950s, a small cloud chamber was featured in the main entrance hall. Visitors could come within inches of radioactive material to watch the vapor trails of the particles they emitted."

--I was at the museum yesterday and there was an operating cloud chamber on display (not in the main entrance hall). This isn't very "historical". 192.52.61.205 (talk) 17:48, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Suggested Move or Rename

Page moved. Note that the oppose and support opinions agree on a target that is different from what was nominated. Vegaswikian (talk) 00:12, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

The name of this museum isn't "Museum of Science, Boston". It's simply "Museum of Science". There are no other prominent museums with that name, at least none that come up on a Google search. This should be moved to Museum of Science, and a hatnote should point people to the current redirect target of Science museum, or the list of science museums, or both. Or, at the very least, the page should be moved to something along the lines of Museum of Science (Boston). Opinions? --UsaSatsui (talk) 01:41, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

With no discussion here, I'm gonna go ahead and request the move. --UsaSatsui (talk) 03:33, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

:Museum of Science, BostonMuseum of Science — Neither "Museum of Science, Boston" nor "Boston Museum of Science" are the name of the museum, it's simply "Museum of Science". No other major science museum goes by this name. The article title should match the name of the museum. --UsaSatsui (talk) 03:33, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

:"Museum of Science" sounds like it could be about such museums in general. [[User talk:Carlaude|{{#if:||Carl}}

::Agreed. If we want to change it, under wikipedia naming convention it should be Museum of Science (Boston) ... which I find already exists, and redirects to this article, so perhaps the naming convention isn't what I think it is. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 13:45, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

:::As I mentioned above, a move to Museum of Science (Boston) would be fine by me. Regardless of where it's moved to, though, hatnotes can direct people to the proper place. I'm just concerned about this title being wrong, which "right" title it gets moved to doesn't concern me much. --UsaSatsui (talk) 17:22, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Beaver

There is no context for the beaver picture, while I agree it is from the museum of science in Boston, it isn't on this page for any particular reason. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.1.94.188 (talk) 23:08, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

"Wildlife section" unnecessary?

Is the "Wildlife section" section really necessary? It consists entirely of three unsourced sentences and a somewhat random picture of a beaver. Chris (talk) 22:13, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

:You're quite correct - it looks like a joke. How did we miss it? I've removed it. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 03:54, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

What's the name of the topic?

  • The article title is Museum of Science (Boston).
  • The logo in the legend says Museum of Science.
  • The legend is captioned Museum of Science, Boston.
  • Section "WWII" sentence one calls it Boston Museum of Science.

Until we're told which one is right, all are wrong.

Isn't the museum itself refereeing this article? If not, why? We want to continually improve Wikipedia.

:Museum of Science (Boston) → {{no redirect|Museum of Science}} – Textbook WP:MISPLACED article; {{-r|Museum of Science}} redirects here. This is the only entry at Science Museum (disambiguation) called "Museum of Science"; the rest of the entries are all "Science Museum"s. Of course, the hatnote is still there for help if you end up at the wrong spot. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 17:06, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
