National Party being against use of Maori words?

The main intro lists the National Party as "New Zealand National Party Rōpū Nāhinara o Aotearoa"

Luxon has come out publicly that he dislikes Maori names being used.

Only 1 party member is Maori, and they have clarified that they will not be aligning with any Maori party.

Is the use of the Maori name for National really consistent with their own party policy? Jaybest (talk) 07:54, 26 May 2023 (UTC)

:The main intro lists the National Party as "New Zealand National Party Rōpū Nāhinara o Aotearoa". No it doesn't. It states the party's name in English, and then, parenthetically, states its name in Māori. This is consistent with many other Wikipedia pages on New Zealand topics, and is supported by a reference (to a National Party document). Unless National were to publicly state that they no longer wish to use this Māori name, we should continue to note it here. PatricKiwi (talk) 15:39, 26 May 2023 (UTC)

The political position of National

National is a Centre-Right party, it calls it’s self Centre-Right on its online website and I’m confused as to why this is even being discussed? 222.152.157.121 (talk) 06:39, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

:What a party calls itself is not objective. Almost every party calls itself centre-right or centre-left. We need assessments from reliable sources, and more recent ones would be preferable, as parties shift alignment over the years.-Gadfium (talk) 07:59, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

::Oh, please. You won’t hear the Greens calling themselves centre-left or ACT centre-right. I don’t see why needing more recent analysis automatically means we should change it rather than keep it the same. Shouldn’t it only change when the evidence supports it? 222.152.157.121 (talk) 11:45, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

:Your reasoning is flawed, however, "right-wing" as a position is currently unsourced in the article, so must be removed until a reliable source can be found describing the party as such. – GlowstoneUnknown (Talk) 01:51, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
