antonym

Is there any reason why the definition has to say an antonym for rather than the opposite of? It seems to make the concept needlessly complicated. I am changing it for now.--Physics is all gnomes (talk) 14:29, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

:Good for you, a lot of wikipedia readers don't speak English very well, so it's bad to use an less-common word when there's a more-common synonym that means the same thing and works just as well. (I am often replacing "utilize" with "use", "prophylactic" with "preventative", etc. etc.) :-) --Steve (talk) 16:40, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
