Bob Marley is cited as the "first artist from the third world to attain international stardom"

However, Tom Jobim from Brazil is widely acknowledged as a international star, with his "Girl from Ipanema" song being recorded by many other international stars such as Frank Sinatra.

From the Tom Jobim article:

"In 1965 his album Getz/Gilberto was the first jazz album to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year."

"His 1967 album with Frank Sinatra, Francis Albert Sinatra & Antônio Carlos Jobim, was nominated for Album of the Year in 1968."
