The AcornMedia DVD says "16:9 widescreen" on the box. Was it broadcast in High Definition? Is there a Blu-Ray version?

Each season is two DVD discs, three episodes on each DVD. That would total six discs, but Acorn Media has issued "Slings and Arrows: The Complete Collection (Plus a Bonus Disc with all new Extras)" --

Includes all 18 episodes plus an all-new bonus disc; CC; approx. 14 hours on 7 DVDs.

Why did the series end, after only three short seasons?

Was it the plan from the beginning to be so limited?
