Babur missile
The article mentioned that the Pakistan's Babur missile has the TERCOM navigation. It seems that this is not known for sure. The Wikipedia article on the Babur missile says that the missile is unlikely to have the TERCOM navigation. I have kept the Babur in the list of missiles that have the TERCOM navigation, but stated that this fact is not known for sure. Profhobby 04:06, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Comment
I do not think TERCOM would ever be used in an anti-ship missile.
I did some work on the feasibility of using TERCOM guided reentry vehicles against Soviet silos. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.67.7.12 (talk) 07:19, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Article Split
This article is really about two different things - Terrain contour matching the concept, and the specific terrain contour matching system called TERCOM fitted to some US missiles. Jellyfish dave (talk) 15:37, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
Terrain Mapping
First the article should be be Computer Terrain Mapping or Computer Contour Mapping withe sup parts on specific applications.
2nd the first practical use was on submarines where large computers and stored map data did not impose limits of aircraft. As far as I know this is still the primary navigation method for US Submarines. Passive sonar is used to sense the sea floor. GPS doesn't work well under the sea especially under ice. My uncle wrote the first programs both to collect the terrain data and do the mapping on board ship. He was an MIT graduate. When the computers got small enough the system was put on cruise missiles.
