Most dictionary entries for "orphan" have definitions which include children who have lost only one parent and children which have been abandoned in some degree by their parents. The guideline (MOS:HONORIFIC) says "honorific titles should not be deleted when they are used throughout an article unless there is consensus." To my reading the guideline clearly says that styles like "His Majesty" and "Her Imperial Highness" should not be used in the article. However, titles like "Lord Smith" or "Sir Robert" or "King Francis II" or "Dom Pedro" are "optional". If the consensus is to keep them, then the guideline does not support their removal. :During their lifetimes and even by historians they were always called by he honorifics ("Dom Pedro", "Dona Maria Leopoldina", etc...). However, to avoid an over abundance of "dom" and "dona" in the articles I chose to use them only when a person is mentioned for the first time and that's it. ::I guess it is also reasonable then to introduce Indian figures, like Ghandi, Nehru, and Patel, with the honorific suffix "-ji". Or the Japanese emperors with "-tenno". And why stop with the likes of Pedro II and Teresa Cristina? Recently, I have been engaged in an edit war with User:Lecen on the use of honorifics. I thought that it's against Wikipedia's MOS to retain honorifics, including those of royalty. If memory serves me correctly, the few exceptions are Burmese honorifcs (for instance, U Thant). Then why is it that when it comes to 18th to 19th century Portuguese and Brazilian royalty, we see the brazen use of "dom/dona/don"?
