Comparison to Source Material/Lore?
2 disclaimers
- I am writing this here as it applies to both season's articles
- I have not watched the series, but have read enough about it to have a general understanding of what occurs.
Could/should there be a section in both the Season 1 and 2 pages comparing the series to the lore itself? Now, I know that the series was based on The Appendices, and also that The Silmarillion (our main source for what occured in the Second Age) was not used as they couldn't get the rights (probably going back to how Christopher Tolkien said that he would refuse to give the rights to the book to anyone). But that beside, the series does take major deviations from the main lore, the two that weigh on my mind is the appearance of Gandalf (and a "Dark Wizard") and awakening of the Balrog, events that in the books take place thousands of years after when the series takes place (under that same heading, there was no dark wizard at the beginning as Saruman was corrupted later on). It would be equivalent to if in the original film series when the Fellowship entered Moria, the Dwarves were still alive and well and as the Fellowship was traversing it, the Dwarves then awoke the Balrog with Gandalf "immediately" slaying it.
Again, I know that the series is based on the Appendices and they couldn't use what was said in The Silmarillion, but I think these two changes and others like it are significant enough that they should be mentioned in their specific articles. Jamisonsupame (talk) 16:48, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
:Due to the source material available, the series is almost entirely original. It wouldn't make sense to have a section that lists every deviation or change in it, and that would really just be trivia anyway. It is better to have the decision making process discussed in the production sections, where we can explain the story decisions that have been made and how they relate to the source material. That is what we have done already for the first season and each of its episode articles, and we have started doing the same for the second season. I plan to expand on the latter in the future if others do not get to it first. Regarding your specific concerns: we already have some details on Gandalf in the season articles and List of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power characters, and the Balrog is mentioned in the latter. I expect we will have more details added on both to the production section of Shadow and Flame and maybe the second-season article as well. - adamstom97 (talk) 17:18, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
Lack of citation in the preamble?
There aren't any footnotes before the premise section - also, either said preamble was plagiarised, or it has been plagiarised [https://meaww.com/lord-of-the-rings-the-rings-of-power-amazon-prime-million-subscribers-jeff-bezos-jrr-tolkien here]. Ghostcat116 (talk) 15:23, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
:The lead does not require in-line citations, it is a summary of the rest of the article which is all appropriately sourced. And as the person who has primarily contributed to the wording in the lead, I can say for sure that the site you linked to is plagiarising this article and not the other way around. - adamstom97 (talk) 15:38, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
