Notability

Notability for members of notable groups is not a given. Per WP:MUSICBIO, "members of notable bands are redirected to the band's article, not given individual articles, unless they have demonstrated individual notability for activity independent of the band, such as solo releases". She does not meet these, as follows:

1) She has not, independent of the band, been the subject of "multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician or ensemble itself and reliable".

2)She has not "had a charted single or album" independent of the band.

3) She has not "had a record certified gold or higher" independent of the band.

4) She has not had an "international concert tour" independent of the band.

5) She has not "released two or more albums on a major label" independent of the band.

6) (Not applicable.)

7) She is not "the most prominent representative of a notable style" independent of the band.

8) She has not "won or been nominated for a major music award" independent of the band.

9) She has not "won or placed in a major music competition" independent of the band.

10) She has not "performed music for a work of media that is notable" independent of the band.

11) She has not "been placed in rotation nationally by any major radio network" independent of the band.

12) She has not "been the subject of a half hour or longer broadcast across a national radio or TV network" independent of the band.

Independent of the band, she is not notable. - SummerPhD (talk) 12:19, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

  • The article is currently under construction, as I'm in the process of locating sources. However, there is a bit of information here on the Broadway/theater singer who becomes lead singer of successful girl band, and whose artistry and vocal talent is comparable to the most successful singers around. What do you propose that we do with the current information? I notice that you always delete it completely, but I disagree with that move. And, I don't think that we should put all of this information in the article about the group. This separate article seems like a commonsense solution, and as the guidelines make clear, the deletion policy is simply a rule of thumb. It's not set in stone: "Please note that the failure to meet any of these criteria does not mean an article must be deleted". Orane (talk) 00:52, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

::From the sources, we have her in one nameless role in one West End production, which isn't notable. That her "artistry and vocal talent is comparable to the most successful singers around" is POV and not at all notable. What her bandmates call her or to whom she is compared is a bit of fluff that we might add to a biography article on someone who is notable. Her biographical info (where she was born, her ancestry, etc.) is similarly data that would appear in a notable person's bio.

::That said, at present there is simply no indication that she is notable per our guidelines. Yes, we can ignore guidelines, but there has to be a reason to do so. If you would like to create a user-subpage with the current contents to work on developing a biography that does demonstrate her individual notability, by all means, please do. Otherwise, I'll redirect it (if you agree) or take it to AfD (if you don't). - SummerPhD (talk) 19:49, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

:::Take it to AFD. It will be deleted, and then recreated sometime in the future by someone else. There are many articles similar to this one on Wikipedia (for example, the members of the Pussycat Dolls) that has caused no problems, and I fail to see your obsession with deleting content. It's not like it's taking up space. Orane (talk) 20:46, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

::::Incidentally, if it is recreated (without addressing the issues raised) after deletion via AfD, it would be speedy deleted via {{db-repost}}. As for the Pussycat Dolls, WP:WAX applies (though two of them are marginal). I do not have an "obsession with deleting content." Do you have an "obessison with non-notable content"? Yeah, Wikipedia does not have a size limit. That said, there clearly has to be a line somewhere between the notability of Earth and some random pebble. I feel White falls on one side of this line, based on our guidelines. I am asking you to establish, based on our guidelines, that she is on the other side of that line. I simply don't see it. - SummerPhD (talk) 14:20, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Vanessa singing Chasing Lights 'entirely'

Where has this been stated? There are many backing vocals during the chorus and unless it is specifically stated in a reliable source that yes, only Vanessa contributes vocals to the track, I would like to see this remark removed.62.78.236.154 (talk) 00:08, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
