N=S+D+C ?

I have my missgivings with this line:

"N is the number of words in the reference (N=S+D+C)"

what if our hypothesis is "a b" and the reference: "a"

As I see it we have: substititions = 0, deletions = 1("b") and corrects = 1("a")

and therefore 1 = N = S+D+C = 0+1+1 = 2 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.208.68.37 (talk) 19:36, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

:From my knowledge this is actually wrong. I will check if it's an alternative definition, but I doubt it. --Shubit182 (talk) 15:15, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
