Notability

{{Discussion top|1=The result of this discussion was to merge to xkcd and create a separate article for the book. This discussion has been open long enough and consensus seems to indicate that the side project is not notable by itself but the best selling book is notable enough for its own article. I will create the new article at what if? (book) Winner 42 Talk to me! 16:51, 30 May 2015 (UTC)}}

I figure if xkcd has it's own article, so should the what-if portion.

:I disagree, I think that this should be merged into xkcd. This isn't noteworthy enough for it's own article. Elassint Hi 17:14, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

:Merge, if not to xkcd then to Randall Munroe. What If the series exists almost entirely as a side-project of xkcd. It's really not notable outside of the context of the comic and/or Munroe. Unless you're also considering the book, which is completely premature at this point, and it's not uncommon for brief book descriptions to just appear in the articles of their authors. ::Once the book comes out, and more information is available, it might be worthwhile to change the main focus of this page to be about the book, and have the website description as part of the article about the book. Dmelc9 (talk) 02:40, 24 August 2014 (UTC)

:Merge. Unless a lot of new information emerges with the book, this stub is really too small to stand on its own. Reify-tech (talk) 03:49, 24 August 2014 (UTC)

:Merge, at least for now. If in the future it grows to be article-worthy, a split could be done. Incidentally, if the decision is "Keep", the title should not have a hyphen as the page does not (though the subdomain name does).--Theodore Kloba (talk) 21:34, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

Notability is attested here [http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/14/sunday-review/were-all-nerds-now.html]. "On Wednesday [September 10, 2014], Mr. Munroe’s first book, “What If?,” debuted at No. 1 on The New York Times nonfiction hardcover best-seller list." Junip (talk) 13:05, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

:Keep. Agreed, being a #1 best-seller is sufficient for notability independent from the comic strip. Superm401 - Talk 07:56, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

:'"Merge"', we can put a redirect to the section which contains this. HackedBotato (talk) 14:33, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

:Merge - not only is it a side project to XKCD, but the article is a stub of notability founded merely on the fact that the book of the side project was a #1 Times best-seller. -G.A.WILMBROKE [ USER / ALT / TALK / CONTRIBS ] 23:27, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

:Keep - article should be expanded not merged, I don't think that many people has more notable "main" projects :) Mithoron (talk) 01:09, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

:Merge, I may be a little late, but I think merging this page with XKCD would be best. It may be a seperate project, but that alone isn't really enough to justify it having it's own page. I Feel Tired (talk) 16:41, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

Releases

I'd like to see a timeline of what-if releases, much like is done for TV series. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.175.97.219 (talk) 04:38, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
