Changing Yoo Hae-jin's English Spelling
{{edit COI|d}}
- What I think should be changed: Yoo Hae Jin's English spelling should be changed to Yoo Hai Jin.
- Why it should be changed:This is because the actor's English writing was changed and there was a direct request.
- References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):https://www.koreanfilm.or.kr/eng/films/index/peopleView.jsp?peopleCd=10054128

{{not done}} IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes have the current spelling. I could not find any other sources with the proposed spelling. Duke Gilmore (talk) 01:46, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

:Yoo Hae-jin → {{no redirect|Yoo Hai-jin}} – According to WP:SPNC, "For minor spelling variations (capitalization, diacritics, transliteration, punctuation and spacing after initials, etc.): when a consistent and unambiguous self-published version [of someone's name] exists, it is usually followed".
The first syllable of his personal name appears to be more commonly romanized by authoritative sources (which can include official ones) as Hai.

:When searching for sources, it seems most news sources still use "Yoo Hae-jin", such as [https://m-en.yna.co.kr/view/PYH20240221094200344?section=news Yonhap], [https://m.koreaherald.com/amp/view.php?ud=20240110000549 the Korea Herald], [https://koreajoongangdaily.joins.com/2023/07/14/entertainment/movies/Korea-Honey-Sweet-Yoo-Haejin/20230714160146295.html the Korea Joongang], and [https://m.koreatimes.co.kr/pages/article.amp.asp?newsIdx=354509 the Korea Times] (Note all of these were published within one year ago). Even then, there’s services that still use "Hae-jin", such as [https://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/hae_jin_yoo Rotten Tomatoes], [https://www.viki.com/celebrities/14887pr-yoo-hae-jin Viki], [https://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/yoo-hae-jin/credits/3030434139/ TV Guide], and [https://www.amazon.com/prime-video/actor/Yoo-Hae-jin/amzn1.dv.gti.318f0630-3328-4f4b-8c3c-5bf0a4f67beb/ref=atv_dp_cnc_vp_i_1 Amazon Prime]. The Google Trends, while admittedly spotty [https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=Yoo%20hae%20jin,Yoo%20hai%20jin&hl=en-US], also seems to suggest "Hae-jin" as more popular (I made sure it was for the search term, and other spacing variants had the same results). I will oppose for now, as it seems "Hae-jin" is still used, and I’m unsure as to what degree WP:SPNC overrides WP:COMMONNAME when dealing with spelling variants Dantus21 (talk) 04:55, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose per above. Reliable sources use "Yoo Hae-jin" at a greater scale than "Yoo Hai-jin". ✗plicit 14:30, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
:Leaning oppose, but could go either way I think. The RS (mostly South Korean it seems; South Korean sources typically lean towards Revised Romanization of Korean by default, regardless of official preferences or common spelling in the West) more significantly seem to use "Hae-jin". Another unfortunate case where official spelling doesn't line up with common name (wonky South Korean romanization standards...). toobigtokale (talk) 02:33, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
