Talmon ({{langx|he|טַלְמוֹן}}) is an Israeli settlement in the West Bank located 8 km from Ramallah, next to the Palestinian villages of Al-Janiya, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Zaitounah – part of whose lands were confiscated for the construction of Talmon. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.{{cite news |date=10 December 2009 |title=The Geneva Convention |publisher=BBC News |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/1682640.stm |accessdate=27 November 2010}}

Located at an elevation of nearly 600 metres and 18 km east of Modiin, it is organised as a community settlement and falls under the jurisdiction of Mateh Binyamin Regional Council. In {{Israel populations|Year}}, it had a population of {{Israel populations|Talmon}}.

History

Israel confiscated land from several Palestinian villages in order to construct Talmon, including:

  • taking land from private Palestinians citizens of Al-Janiya,[http://vprofile.arij.org/ramallah/pdfs/vprofile/Al%20Janiya_vp_En.pdf Al Janiya Village Profile], ARIJ, pp. 15-16[http://www.redpepper.org.uk/A-walk-in-the-hills/ A walk in the hills], by Raja Shehadeh, December 1, 2008[https://www.hrw.org/sites/default/files/reports/iopt1210webwcover_0.pdf Separate and Unequal: Israel’s Discriminatory Treatment of Palestinians in the Occupied Palestinian Territories], HRW, 2010[http://www.tabletmag.com/jewish-news-and-politics/180342/seven-days-five-years Seven days, five years: A week visiting my family in Israel], David Meir Grossman, July 28, 2014, Tablet
  • land confiscated from the town of Al-Ittihad,[http://vprofile.arij.org/ramallah/pdfs/vprofile/AL-Itihad_tp_en.pdf Al-Itihad Town Profile (Beitillu, Jammala & Deir 'Ammar)], ARIJ, pp. 16-17
  • in addition to 289 dunams confiscated from Al-Zaitounah.[http://vprofile.arij.org/ramallah/pdfs/vprofile/Al-_Zaytouneh_tp_en.pdf AL-Zaytouneh Town Profile], ARIJ, p. 18

Talmon was founded in 1989, with the name taken from the family name of the family of gatekeepers of the Temple in Jerusalem who returned to rebuild Jerusalem during the time of Nehemiah.[http://www.mechon-mamre.org/e/et/et35b12.htm Nehemiah 12 / Hebrew Bible in English] Mechon-Mamre

The settlement of Neria was originally built on land designated for Talmon, but it is now independent.{{citation needed|date=November 2018}}
