Tamuna Sirbiladze (12 February 1971{{snds}}2 March 2016) was an artist based in Vienna, Austria.
Life
Sirbiladze was born 12 February 1971 in Tbilisi in Georgia and died 2 March 2016 in Vienna. She studied art at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts (1989{{ndash}}1994) in Georgia and later the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (1997{{ndash}}2003) and Slade School of Fine Art, London, 2003. She was the widow of fellow artist Franz West (1947{{ndash}}2012) and collaborated with West on a number of projects.{{cite web|url=http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0268/is_9_39/ai_75914311|title=FindArticles.com – CBSi|author=|date=|work=findarticles.com|accessdate=7 March 2016}}{{cite web|url=http://www.artnet.com/magazineus/reviews/davis/davis5-11-07.asp|title=Pinault and Co. - artnet Magazine|author=|date=11 May 2007|work=artnet.com|accessdate=7 March 2016}}
Sirbiladze's background influenced her approach to painting: "Sirbiladze was exposed to art mostly through books{{nsmdns}}her home country had few museums. She knew early on that she wanted to be an artist, however, and cited the colors of the art she came across as the reason she ended up painting."{{cite web|last1=Greenberger|first1=Alex|title=TAMUNA SIRBILADZE, ABSTRACT PAINTER WHO RECENTLY MADE NEW YORK DEBUT, DIES AT 45|url=http://www.artnews.com/2016/03/04/tamuna-sirbiladze-abstract-painter-who-recently-made-new-york-debut-dies-at-45/|website=Art News|date=4 March 2016 |accessdate=6 March 2016}}
Work
Sirbiladze painted fast, and sometimes incorporated text into her work.Alexander, Darsie, [http://www.hamsterwheel.eu/pdf/darsie%20alexander_engl.pdf HamsterWheel.eu] An Art in America review in 2015 noted the "energetic content" of her work, adding that "Sirbiladze’s line is spare; abundant, creamy negative space supports the gentle diagonal flow of marks".{{cite web|last1=Whittaker|first1=Iona|title=Review: Tamuna Sirbiladze NEW YORK, at James Fuentes|url=http://www.artinamericamagazine.com/reviews/tamuna-sirbiladze/|website=Art in America|date=8 December 2015 |accessdate=6 March 2016|ref=Art In America}} Alex Greenberger wrote that her "... paintings played with the division between figuration and abstraction" and "... recall the work of Henri Matisse and the Impressionists in their light, expressive brushwork".{{cite web | last1=Greenberger|first1=Alex | title=Tamuna Sirbiladze, Abstract Painter Who Recently Made New York Debut, Dies at 45 | url=http://www.artnews.com/2016/03/04/tamuna-sirbiladze-abstract-painter-who-recently-made-new-york-debut-dies-at-45/ | website=artnews.com |date=4 March 2016 | publisher=ArtNews | accessdate=7 March 2016}}
