History
Tanki is Papiamento for "pond", and Leendert is a common surname. An Amerindian village has been discovered near the town measuring 450 by 400 metres. It is one of the four known Amerindian settlements on Aruba. European pottery, pipes and bottles from the 18th century have also been discovered on the same site, suggesting a later resettlement.{{cite news|url=https://www.delpher.nl/nl/kranten/view?query=tanki+leendert&coll=ddd&identifier=ddd:010463017:mpeg21:a0105&resultsidentifier=ddd:010463017:mpeg21:a0105&rowid=7 |title=De Indianen van Tanki Leendert|website=Amigoe di Curacao via Delpher.nl|date=16 September 1966|access-date=27 April 2021|language=nl}}
In the 20th century, Noord became the centre for the tourism industry and site of large scale hotel construction{{rp|10}} which has resulted in Tanki Leendert, Noord, Paradera and Tanki Flip merging into a near continuous urban area.{{rp|9}} In 1968, the parish of Tanki Leendert was split of Noord, and the Monte Calvario Church was inaugurated.{{cite news|url=https://www.delpher.nl/nl/kranten/view?query=tanki+leendert+parochie&coll=ddd&identifier=ddd:010643891:mpeg21:a0091&resultsidentifier=ddd:010643891:mpeg21:a0091&rowid=1 |title=Monte Calvariokerk|website=Amigoe di Curacao via Delpher.nl|date=4 March 1968|access-date=27 April 2021|language=nl}} The Museum of Antiquities Aruba is located in Tanki Leendert.{{cite web|url=https://www.visitaruba.com/getPage.do?page=rococo-plaza-outlet-tanki-leendert |title=Rococo Plaza Outlet Tanki Leendert |website=Visit Aruba|access-date=27 April 2021}}
