Tao Siju ({{zh|s=陶驷驹|t=陶駟駒|p=Táo Sìjū}}; April 1935 – April 18, 2016) was the Minister of Public Security of the People's Republic of China between 1990 and 1998.
Biography
Tao was born in Jingjiang, Jiangsu. In 1950 he was admitted to the Shanghai Textiles College (later merged into Donghua University). A year later he was admitted to the People's Public Security University of China, and began pursuing a career in policing. He worked at the Ministry of Public Security until 1968, when he was purged during the Cultural Revolution. He was sent down to a May Seventh Cadre School.{{cn|date=May 2024}}
In October 1975, Tao returned to work, first at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, then as secretary to General Luo Ruiqing. In July 1983 Tao was named Vice-Minister of Public Security. Tao was the Minister of Public Security from 1990 to 1998. During his tenure he was known for pioneering the "110" hotline for reporting crimes to the police in large cities. He also streamlined the police ranking system. He left active politics in 1998 and began sitting on the National People's Congress Internal and Judicial Affairs Committee. He retired in June 2009.{{cn|date=May 2024}}
Tao was the member of the 14th and 15th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party from 1992 to 2002.{{cn|date=May 2024}}
Tao died on April 18, 2016. Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, Hu Jintao, and Zhu Rongji sent their condolences.
