Robert Patrick "Tate" Forcier ({{IPAc-en|ˈ|f|ɔːr|s|i|eɪ}} {{respell|FOR|see|ay}}; born August 7, 1990) is a former American football quarterback. He was a starting quarterback for the 2009 Michigan Wolverines football team ahead of Denard Robinson, and Robinson's backup for the 2010 Michigan Wolverines football team. He left the program in January 2011 when head coach Rich Rodriguez was replaced by Brady Hoke. He missed the January 1, 2011 Gator Bowl after being ruled academically ineligible and was no longer enrolled at the university when the new term began following the semester break.{{cite news|author=Time Rohan|title=Tate Forcier not enrolled in classes this semester, not with football program|newspaper=The Michigan Daily|date=January 13, 2011|url=http://michigandaily.com/node/58271}} On February 9, 2011, Forcier announced his transfer to the University of Miami. He originally intended to redshirt the 2011 season and play for the Miami Hurricanes football team in the 2012 and 2013 season but instead transferred to San Jose State University to play for the Spartans football team. He soon withdrew from the San Jose State football program.{{cite web|last=Wilner|first=Jon|title=Tate Forcier no longer a San Jose State Spartan|url=http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/ci_19706688/|work=San Jose Mercury News|access-date=January 9, 2012}} He then attended training camp with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.[https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/headlines/tiger-cats-sign-former-michigan-qb-tate-forcier-1.1197983 Tiger-Cats sign former Michigan QB Tate Forcier], CBC/Radio-Canada, May 15, 2012.
Forcier is from a family of quarterbacks with two older brothers who played Pacific-10 Conference football and a father who also played quarterback in college. His oldest brother, Jason, played briefly for Michigan before transferring to Stanford University. Following in the footsteps of his brothers and father, Forcier has been a quarterback since his Junior PeeWee Pop Warner Football days.
Youth career
Forcier began working with athletic training guru Marv Marinovich as a third-grader. In 2001, Forcier quarterbacked the Carlsbad Charging Lancers to the four-team National Pop Warner Football Championship at the Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida in the Junior PeeWee division.{{cite web|url=http://docs.newsbank.com/openurl?ctx_ver=z39.88-2004&rft_id=info:sid/iw.newsbank.com:NewsBank:SDUB&rft_val_format=info:ofi/fmt:kev:mtx:ctx&rft_dat=116D36A2748B1753&svc_dat=InfoWeb:aggregated5&req_dat=0D0CB579A3BDA420|title=Pop Warner teams headed to Orlando|access-date=September 13, 2009|date=November 28, 2001|work=San Diego Union-Tribune|author=Reid, Whitelaw}} On December 5, Carlsbad defeated the Dorchester (Boston, Massachusetts) 15–12 in the national semifinals.
