Calmell was born on July 22, 1994 in Lima, Peru. In 2013, she took part in the reality show Peru's Next Top Model on ATV. During the competition, she reported discomfort due to inappropriate conduct during a photo shoot, which affected her performance and led to her elimination. In 2019, Calmell made her acting debut in the primetime telenovela Princesas on América Televisión, portraying Danielle Coronado, a character inspired by Cinderella from the Brothers Grimm. Calmell entered Miss Peru 2022, surprising many pageant followers who had regarded her as a strong candidate for Miss Universe. The national final took place on June 14, 2022, where she was named first runner-up. At Miss International 2022, Calmell was considered one of the frontrunners. She received the Missosology’s Choice Award, an annual honor presented by the beauty pageant website Missosology to standout contestants across the four major international competitions: Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Earth.

The final was held on December 13, 2022, where Calmell placed as second runner-up. At the time, Calmell believed her pageant career had ended due to age eligibility rules. Following her film debut, Calmell announced her intention to compete for Miss Peru 2024. Her prior experience made her one of the favorites for the national title. The final took place on June 9, 2024, at Plaza Grau in Callao, where she represented the province of Talara. As Miss Peru 2024, Calmell represented Peru at Miss Universe 2024 in Mexico City. She placed in the Top 12, with the crown being awarded to Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark. Calmell has been involved in various social initiatives and advocacy efforts throughout her career. She participated in campaigns such as Dulces que Cumplen Deseos, organized by the confectionery company La Ibérica in collaboration with Make-A-Wish Peru. As Miss International Peru, she served as an ambassador for organizations including the Peruvian League to Fight Cancer, Beauties for SDGs, and Corazones Verdes Mundial, supporting outreach efforts across different regions of the country. She took part in the International Forum of Women Entrepreneurs in Japan and developed a project at the Colegio Divino Niño Jesús, an institution offering specialized education and rehabilitation services for children. Following her reign, she continued to collaborate with social organizations, becoming an ambassador for the Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Ministry of the Environment.
