Research

For example, he has published multiple studies on the effects of abortion laws. These include a 2011 perspective piece comparing the effectiveness of supply-side and demand-side laws in reducing rates of abortions performed after 16 weeks which found that the former were much more effective than the latter.{{cite web | url=https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2014/10/the-safer-more-affordable-abortion-only-available-in-two-states/381321/ | title=The Safer, More Affordable Abortion Only Available in Two States | work=The Atlantic | date=10 October 2014 | accessdate=20 April 2016 | author=Semuels, Alana}} He has also published research showing that parental involvement laws were not associated with significant changes in the overall abortion rate, but that they had small effects on some subgroups of minors.{{cite web | url=https://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/06/national/06abortion.html?pagewanted=print&_r=0 | title=Scant Drop Seen in Abortion Rate if Parents Are Told | work=New York Times | date=6 March 2006 | accessdate=20 April 2016 | author=Lehren, Andres}} In a 2006 study, he and his colleagues found that Texas' parental notification law was associated with a significant decline in the abortion rate among Texas teenagers.{{cite news | url=https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/08/AR2006030802077.html | title=Drop in Abortions, Notification Law Linked | newspaper=Washington Post | date=8 March 2006 | accessdate=20 April 2016 | agency=Associated Press}}
