Tehama ({{IPAc-en|t|ə|'|h|eɪ|m|ə}} {{respell|tə|HAY|mə}}) is a Canadian Software as a Service (SaaS) company headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario, that provides a virtual, cloud-based, Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) platform for the secure exchange of work over the internet, allowing organizations to securely manage remote workers, third-party vendors, and freelancers, and integrate them into their working environments.{{cite web |author1=OBJ staff |title=Ottawa's Pythian launches Tehama to secure enterprise connections to global workers |url=https://obj.ca/article/ottawas-pythian-launches-tehama-secure-enterprise-connections-global-workers |website=Ottawa Business Journal |date=August 31, 2018 |accessdate=4 August 2020 }}

History

Tehama began as a suite of virtual desktop, zero-trust network access, auditable secret and file sharing and workflow-automation technologies enabling secure, remote Internet-based work amongst the global workforce and clientele of Pythian, an IT services company founded in 1997. In September 2018, to offer the Tehama platform to the public, CEO and entrepreneur Paul Vallée launched Tehama as a subsidiary business unit of Pythian.{{cite web |last1=Jackson |first1=Brian |url=https://itworldcanada.com/article/pythian-to-launch-saas-platform-tehama-as-a-startup/408832 |title=Pythian to launch SaaS platform Tehama as a startup |website=IT World Canada News |date=11 September 2018 |accessdate=14 September 2020 }}

In September 2019, in response to a surge in demand for the Tehama platform, the Tehama unit was spun-off as a company in its own right, independent of Pythian. Financing for this venture was provided by the New York-based private equity firm Mill Point Capital, which thereby gained a majority stake in Pythian.{{cite web |last1=Sali |first1=David |url=https://obj.ca/article/ottawas-pythian-acquired-offshoot-tehama-spun-separate-firm|title=Ottawa's Pythian acquired, offshoot Tehama spun off into separate firm

As one of Tehama's core services facilitates remote work, the company saw a notable upswing in interest in March 2020 during the COVID-19 crisis, with a 35-fold increase in inquiries from the prior month.{{cite web |last1=Silcoff |first1=Sean |title=As employers send workers home, some tech companies stand to benefit from COVID-19 crisis |url=https://theglobeandmail.com/business/article-while-most-businesses-struggle-some-are-cashing-in-on-covid-1/ |website=The Globe and Mail |date=20 March 2020 |accessdate=14 September 2020}} By May 2020, having seen its client base grow to more than 150, Tehama announced that it had raised US$10,000,000 through Series A funding round led by OMERS Ventures.{{cite web |last1=Kirkwood |first1=Isabelle |title=Tehama raises $14 million CAD as it looks to address demand for remote working solutions |url=https://betakit.com/tehama-raises-14-million-cad-as-it-looks-to-address-demand-for-remote-working-solutions/ |website=betakit |accessdate=4 August 2020 |date=5 May 2020}}{{cite web |last1=Silcoff |first1=Sean |title=OMERS Ventures invests in Ottawa work-from-home technology startup Tehama |url=https://theglobeandmail.com/business/article-omers-ventures-invests-in-ottawa-work-from-home-technology-startup/ |website=The Globe and Mail |accessdate=17 September 2020 |date=5 May 2020}}
