It debuted on April 29, 1968, being presented by journalist Carlos Giacosa for 20 years. He was succeeded in 1988 by Jorge Wilson Arellano.

In 1992, the well-known Monte Carlo News Center was inaugurated, with a set inspired by that used by CNN at that time. It went through several reformulations between 1998, 2000 and 2011. In May 1993 Fernando Vilar joined the newscast as anchor.[http://www.tvshow.com.uy/pantalla-caliente/fernando-vilar-20-anos-telenoche.html Fernando Vilar cumple 20 años en Telenoche] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131202225229/http://www.tvshow.com.uy/pantalla-caliente/fernando-vilar-20-anos-telenoche.html|date=December 2, 2013}}

On August 4, 2015, Fernando Vilar left Telenoche, being replaced by Daniel Castro, who had presented Teledía Primera Hora, the morning edition.{{Cite web |date=2022-09-17 |title=Fernando Vilar dejó Canal 4 y será reemplazado por Daniel Castro |url=https://www.elobservador.com.uy/nota/fernando-vilar-dejo-canal-4-y-sera-reemplazado-por-daniel-castro--20158420500 |access-date=2023-01-18 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220917133114/https://www.elobservador.com.uy/nota/fernando-vilar-dejo-canal-4-y-sera-reemplazado-por-daniel-castro--20158420500 |archive-date=2022-09-17 }} On May 2, 2016, the former CNN en Español correspondent Karina Dalmás, joined Castro as a co-anchor.{{Cite web |title=La periodista Karina Dalmás se suma a la conducción de Telenoche |url=https://www.pantallazo.com.uy/Pantallazo/La-periodista-Karina-Dalmas-se-suma-a-la-conduccion-de-Telenoche-uc306337 |access-date=2023-01-18 |website=Pantallazo |language=es}}
