- ... that Civilization was almost called “Fame Whores of Hedge Fund City”? Source: [https://www.newestyork.co/18-civilization-interview Newest York interview] "it may be called BORED, it may also be called MOTHERFUCKER, or FAME WHORES OF HEDGE FUND CITY" – which is actually still a quite good name."
- ALT1: ... that Civilization was supposed to be horrible, unlikable and partly AI-generated? Source: [https://www.printmag.com/daily-heller/the-daily-heller-civilization-is-made-to-answer-a-need-in-me-not-you/ Print magazine on issue #6] "What is the reason for your up-yours-design? —To do something unlikable, repellent, horrible, ugly." [https://www.itsnicethat.com/articles/richard-turley-civilisation-issue-six-publication-040522 Its Nice That article on issue #6] "And in some areas the human element was rejected entirely with Richard sharing that over half of the issue was made using AI writing tools."
- ALT2: ... that Civilization began in New York City? Source: [https://www.itsnicethat.com/articles/richard-turley-lucas-masctello-mia-kerin-civilization-publication-270418 Its Nice That interview] "I went to BJ Magazines on Varick Street at lunch – one of the better places to get magazines [in New York], but somewhere I’ve been going less and less,” recalls designer and art director, Richard Turley, of the day back in January he decided to create his latest project, Civilization."
- ALT3: ... that Civilization responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by mailing letters? Source: [https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2020/apr/07/civilization-new-york-magazine-sending-art-in-the-post The Guardian article] "in 2020, as coronavirus rages through the city, the people behind Civilization – a singular print publication stuffed full of the musings of random New Yorkers – are reviving the concept. For $3 (£2.40), which you pay through their online store, they’ll send you a personalised letter."

- Comment: ALT2 is funny as a rug-pull for readers who think it's talking about "civilization" and not Civilization but I'm ok with not using it since it's the blandest of the 3.

- Not a review, but many of these hooks would be improved by having 'civilization' in lower case, which would necessitate running it as a WP:DYKAPRIL hook.--Launchballer 21:46, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- I almost wish I'd thought of it in time for this April fool's day. BuySomeApples (talk) 03:43, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- 16px Article new enough (May 2), long enough (5300 B), no copyvio (Earwig says 45.9%, but only direct quotes that are properly attributed). Approving ALT0 or ALT1, both good options for a quirky hook; both hooks verified in primary sources. ALT2 would work as an April Fool's hook, except the article doesn't actually specify that the magazine started in New York.
{{ping|BuySomeApples}} Sourcing is mostly good—primary sources are used neutrally, and there are enough independent sources (The Guardian, El País) to establish notability. Just one question, though: can you explain what makes News Paper Design a reliable source? — Vigilant Cosmic Penguin 🐧 (talk | contribs) 05:41, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
::News Paper Design looked reliable enough at first glance because it seems to have some kind of editorial standards, but I removed it since it seems like a niche source anyway. BuySomeApples (talk) 03:17, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
