=Parameters=

These are the most commonly-used parameters. The template accepts all parameters that {{tl|Infobox person}} does. To see a complete list of those parameters, see here.

{{Aligned table

| class = wikitable

| row1header = y

| cols = 2

| col1style = font-style:italic;font-weight:bold;padding-right:1.0em;

| {{noitalic|Parameter}} | Explanation

| name | Commonly-known name of person (defaults to article name, without disambiguation)

| honorific_prefix | To appear on the line above the person's name

| honorific_suffix | To appear on the line below the person's name

| image | A picture of or including the person. Use file name only, without the brackets and File: or Image: prefix (abc.jpg, xyz.png, etc.)

| image_size | Size to display image: 200px (set width), x300px (set height), or 200x300px (max width & max height). This defaults to frameless (default is 220px, but logged in users can change this by clicking on "my preferences" and adjusting thumbnail size) if empty or omitted. This parameter should not normally need to be set.

| alt | Alternative text for image, for visually impaired readers (see WP:ALT)

| caption | Caption to accompany image. If a (portrait) photograph of the person, try to include date of photo and photographer's name.

| type | Sponsoring agency (NASA, RKA, ESA, CSA, etc.) plus "Astronaut" ("Cosmonaut" for RKA) for professionals; Payload Specialist, Tourist, etc. for other flyers.

| native_name | Name in the person's native language. If more than one, separate using {{tl|plainlist}}.

| native_name_lang | ISO 639-1 two-letter code for person's native language (e.g. "fr" for French). If more than one, use {{tl|lang}} in {{para|native_name}} instead.

| nationality | Nationality. Use only when necessary per WP:INFONAT, Do not use a flag template.

| citizenship | Citizenship. Use only when necessary per WP:INFONAT.

| status | Status of involvement with an astro/cosmonaut corps (e.g. Active, Retired, Dismissed); applies only to living persons. Remove upon death; do not put "dead" or circumstances of death.

| birth_name | Name at birth, if different than name

| birth_date | Date of birth. If the person is living, use {{tl|Birth date and age}}, {{tl|Birth-date and age}}, or {{tl|Birth year and age}}. If deceased, use {{tl|Birth date}} or {{tl|Birth date text}}. Use plain text for partial dates.
Example: {{Birth date and age|1950|8|26}} if born August 26, 1950
Example: {{Birth date and age|df=yes|1950|8|26}} to display birth date as 26 August 1950

| birth_place | Place of birth (town/city, state/province, country).

| death_date | Date of death. If the date of birth is known, use {{tl|Death date and age}}, {{tl|Death-date and age}}, or {{tl|Death year and age}}. Otherwise, use {{tl|Death date}} or {{tl|Death date text}}. Use plain text for partial dates.
Example: {{Death date and age|1993|2|24|1950|8|26}} if died February 24, 1993 and born August 26, 1950
Example: {{Death date and age|df=yes|1993|2|24|1941|4|12}} to display death date as 24 February 1993

| death_place | Place of death (town/city, state/province, country).

| resting_place | Location where person buried, ashes interred/scattered, etc.

| resting_place_coords | Precise coordinates for place of burial, ash-scattering etc. Use {{tl|coord}} template.

| other_names | If person used/known by names other than those already given.

| occupation | Occupation or occupations other than as an astro/cosmonaut.

| current_occupation | Current occupation if not still an astro/cosmonaut.

| previous_occupation | Occupation before becoming an astro/cosmonaut.

| education | Education, e.g., degree, institution and graduation year, if relevant. If very little information is available or relevant, the {{para|alma_mater}} parameter may be more appropriate.

| alma_mater | Alma mater. This parameter is a more concise alternative to (not addition to) {{para|education}} and will often consist of the linked name of the last-attended institution of higher education (not secondary schools). For astro/cosmonauts, it is usually used when the degree earned is unknown.

| rank | Military rank (if any).

| space_time | Total time (to date) person has spent in space, in days, hours, minutes.

| selection | Training group(s) the astronaut was selected for, including year. If the group does not have a standalone wiki page, link to List of astronauts by year of selection.

| eva_time | Total time of all EVAs when combined, in hours, minutes
