Template talk:Infobox former subdivision

This (via parameters like {{para|year_start|1741}} {{para|year_end|1867}} {{para|date_start|July 15}} {{para|date_end|October 18}}) is outputting dates in non-standard (not-MOS:DATE-permissible) format, as {{samp|July 15 1741}} and {{samp|October 18 1867}} – as seen at Russian colonization of North America.

By default, it should be doing {{samp|18 October 1867}} (dmy being the more common format, site-wide). With some parameter switch like {{para|date_format|mdy}} or {{para|mdy|yes}}, it should output US-format dates as {{samp|October 18, 1867}}. Description of suggested change: First, could someone fix the motto parameter so it appears above the anthem like in Template:Infobox country instead of in the government section? Second, could someone add a currency parameter? Also, the link to the anthem in the anthem parameter feels a bit unnecessary and could be removed. Thank you. :{{partially done}} This is a weird way to have things, so I've also removed a half-dozen other instances of this occurring; if people want to link things, they can just link them directly in the param (i.e. we shouldn't be guessing whether something is auto-linked or not). At Washington Territory and other U.S. territorial articles, the dates generated by year_start and year_end are being incorrectly displayed in DMY instead of MDY. At Oregon Territory, it seems that using the full date format as intended results in no year being shown (and still in the incorrect DMY format). Can we just decouple the year parameter entirely to prevent these kinds of issues from cropping up in the future? SounderBruce 05:06, 8 March 2025 (UTC)
