Politics and administration

The commune of Tergnier absorbed the former communes of Fargniers and Vouël in 1974,[https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/jorf/jo/id/JORFCONT000000021309 Modifications aux circonscriptions administratives territoriales (fusion de communes)], Journal officiel de la République française n° 0301, 27 December 1973, p. 13838. and Quessy in 1992.[https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/jorf/id/JORFTEXT000000161768 Arrêté du 5 novembre 1991 portant modification aux circonscriptions administratives territoriales (fusion de communes)], Journal officiel de la République française n° 23, 28 January 1992. Since the 2020 municipal elections, Michel Carreau has been the mayor of Tergnier.

Tergnier is twinned with the municipality of Wolfhagen (Germany) since 17 May 1981.{{Cite web|title=Partnerstädte: Tergnier und Ohrdruf|url=https://www.wolfhagen.de/mein-wolfhagen/verwaltung-und-politik/partnerstaedte.php|access-date=22 April 2021|website=wolfhagen.de}}
