History

Thap Thiang has a history of more than 100 years. Its name means 'rest at noon' as King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) had traveled here and rested in the pavilion at noon. Later in 1915, the capital district of Trang moved from Kantang to here.{{cite web|url=https://www.bangkokbiznews.com/news/detail/695185|first=Chiranan|last= Pitpreecha|work=Bangkok Biznews|date=2016-04-23|accessdate=2019-05-07|language=thai|title=ทับเที่ยง : ย่านเก่า-เงาอดีต|trans-title=Thap Thiang : Old City-Previous Shade}}

However, according to historical scrutiny. It was found that King Chulalongkorn never came to Thap Thiang. Therefore, it is believed the name "Thap Thiang" probably means a break for cooking or eating lunch during the noon of the traders who came to trade in the past.{{cite web|url=https://www.facebook.com/100077054168422/videos/763192681818580/|work=Facebook|date=2023-02-18|accessdate=2023-02-26|language=thai|first=Tullakan|last=Makkhun|title=พาชมสถานีรถไฟตรัง ย่าน ถ.สถานี และ ถ.พระราม 6|trans-title=Take a tour of Trang railway station in the area of Sathani Road and Rama VI Road}}
