Production
While filming in January 2007, the camera crew was trailing police as they made armed entry into an apartment based on a call about a possible murder. The "corpse" reported by a neighbour turned out to be a mannequin.{{cite news |last1=Adams |first1=Chloe |last2=Dennehy |first2=Luke |last3=Miller |first3=Megan |title=Penal Code |work=Herald Sun |date=17 January 2007 |location=Melbourne |page=22 |via=ProQuest}}{{cite news |last1=Cunningham |first1=Matt |title=Cops' murder dash proves a dummy run |work=Herald Sun |date=11 January 2007 |location=Melbourne |page=4 |via=ProQuest}}
Thirteen episodes were planned. Due to poor viewership performance, The Code was replaced by What's Good For You on the schedule after airing its third episode.{{cite news |title=Nine says crime not good for you |work=Gold Coast Bulletin |date=24 February 2007 |location=Southport, Qld |page=122 |via=ProQuest}}
