Cast

Production

Tim Holt was borrowed by RKO from Walter Wanger to play the Tonto Kid. He would soon star in a series of Westerns for the studio.Richard Jewell & Vernon Harbin, The RKO Story. New Rochelle, New York: Arlington House, 1982. p123

Anne Shirley and Harry Carey were also borrowed from Wanger.{{Cite news|title=Gable to Play Doctor in Towne, Baker Yarn: Sheridan With Cagney Oakie May Do Series 'Tombstone' Cast Set 'Balalaika' to Start|author=Schallert, Edwin|date=Sep 13, 1938|work=Los Angeles Times|page=12}} However Shirley refused to play the role and was suspended.{{Cite news|title=Screen News Here and in Hollywood: RKO and Cantor Negotiating for Comedian to Star on Percentage Basis MGM Gets Wiman Show Acquires Rights to 'I Married an Angel' – New Mr. Moto Film Opens Today Picture for Bing Crosby Of Local Origin|date=Sep 17, 1938|work=New York Times|page=20}}

Author Tom Stempel called the film " one of the more haphazard movies of the time" in which "Carey plays a combination of Buffalo Bill, Judge Roy Bean, and Pat Garrett, with a young Holt playing a version of Billy the Kid. Holt seems right at home in westerns."{{cite web|url=http://offscreen.com/view/tim-holt-and-the-b-western|title=Tim Holt and the B Western|publisher=}}
