It includes the large multipurpose Orleans Arena that can be converted into an ice rink and can seat 9,000 attendees.{{cite book|title=Las Vegas Dreams|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=EFMaIlRv30EC&pg=PA71|publisher=American Dreams|isbn=978-1-59975-141-2|pages=71–}} The Orleans Ice Rink is the former home of the Las Vegas Wranglers, a minor league ice hockey team that played in the ECHL from 2003 until 2014.

Though The Orleans attracts a fair number of tourists, particularly during the Mr. Olympia contest, it is primarily considered to be a locals casino. History

The $173 million Orleans opened on 88 acres of land on December 18, 1996, with 840 hotel rooms.{{cite news |last=Shemeligian |first=Bob |title=Cajun wagerin': Orleans property opens doors Wednesday |url=https://lasvegassun.com/news/1996/dec/13/cajun-wagerin-orleans-property-opens-doors-wednesd/ |access-date=February 18, 2020 |work=Las Vegas Sun |date=December 13, 1996}}{{cite news |last1=Koch |first1=Ed |last2=Shemeligian |first2=Bob |title=A bit of Louisiana debuting in Vegas |url=https://lasvegassun.com/news/1996/dec/18/bit-louisiana-debuting-vegas/ |access-date=February 18, 2020 |work=Las Vegas Sun |date=December 18, 1996}}{{cite news |last=Shemeligian |first=Bob |title=Revelers flock to the new Orleans |url=https://lasvegassun.com/news/1996/dec/19/revelers-flock-to-the-new-orleans/ |access-date=February 18, 2020 |work=Las Vegas Sun |date=December 19, 1996}} When the Orleans first opened, it did not perform up to expectations. In 1999 a major addition to the casino and other amenities were added. The success of these changes has been demonstrated by continued expansions in later years.

The Orleans Arena was added in 2003. A second hotel tower was added in 2004.

The location has the distinction of having hosted the final concert performance from stand-up comedian George Carlin, on June 15, 2008.{{Cite web| title = Legendary comedian George Carlin dies| work = Las Vegas Review-Journal| date = 2008-06-23| access-date = 15 September 2019| url = https://www.reviewjournal.com/news/legendary-comedian-george-carlin-dies/}}{{cite web|author=Jerry Fink|url=https://m.lasvegassun.com/news/2008/jun/24/misfit-cracked-wise/|title=Misfits’ icon cracked wise|publisher=Las Vegas Sun|date=June 24, 2008|accessdate=December 19, 2021}}
