The building was designed by the Copenhagen-based Cobe architectural firm, and was completed in 2017.

Background

The Silo is a part of the transformation of Copenhagen's Nordhaven (meaning North Harbour) from an industrial development into a new city district.{{cite web |title=The Silo / Cobe |url=https://www.archdaily.com/874698/the-silo-cobe |website=archdaily.com |publisher=ArchDaily |accessdate=25 July 2020}} Construction required the former grain silo's concrete facade to be upgraded and recladded, the interior of the silo was preserved as much as possible. The apartments housed in The Silo range from 106m² to 401m² in size, with floor heights up to 7 meters, and include floor to ceiling windows and balconies.

The Silo has won numerous design and architectural awards including the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat 2018 Best Tall Building Europe,{{cite web |title=CTBUH Annual Awards: Winners - 2018 |url=https://awards.ctbuh.org/winners/?award-year=2018 |website=awards.ctbuh.org |publisher=Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat |accessdate=25 July 2020}} the Civic Trust Awards,{{cite web |title=The Silo |url=https://www.civictrustawards.org.uk/winners/the-silo |website=civictrustawards.org.uk |publisher=Civic Trust Awards |accessdate=25 July 2020}} and the Azure AZ Awards 2018 for design of the multi-storey residential building.{{cite web |title=2018 AZ Awards Winner: Residential Architecture, Multi-Unit |url=http://www.azuremagazine.com/article/2018-az-awards-winner-residential-architecture-multi-unit |website=azuremagazine.com |publisher=Azure |accessdate=25 July 2020 |date=June 29, 2018}}
