Prior art patent case

In 1964, Danish inventor Karl Krøyer salvaged a shipwreck by pumping expandable polystyrene foam balls into its hull.

According to Dutch jurist {{Interlanguage link multi|Arnoud Engelfriet|nl|3=Arnoud Engelfriet}} it remains unclear whether the story was cited as prior art in the rejection of Krøyer's patent since the case files have been destroyed and the patent attorney has died.{{cite web|url=https://www.iusmentis.com/patents/priorart/donaldduck/|first1=Arnoud|last1=Engelfriet|date=30 November 2006|title=The "Donald Duck as prior art" case}}
