The Week in Chess (TWIC) is a chess news web site. It was founded in 1994 and is based in the United Kingdom.

TWIC has been edited by Mark Crowther since its inception in 1994.{{cite news |author=Mark Crowther |title=20 years of The Week in Chess |url=http://theweekinchess.com/chessnews/general/20-years-of-the-week-in-chess |accessdate=1 January 2016 |work=The Week in Chess |date=17 September 2014}} It began as a weekly Usenet posting, with "TWIC 1" being posted to Usenet group rec.games.chess on 17 September 1994.[http://groups.google.com.au/group/rec.games.chess/browse_thread/thread/1ac19b7ed805af60/615ecb887a1f1c67?lnk=st&q=&rnum=34&hl=en#615ecb887a1f1c67 The Week in Chess 1], Usenet newsgroup rec.games.chess, 19 September 1994 Later it moved to Crowther's personal web site, then to chesscenter.com in 1997,[https://web.archive.org/web/20070824093415/http://chess.about.com/library/weekly/aa04f05.htm TWIC 500!] – a history of TWIC, formerly at about.com (June 2004), now at Internet Archive and in 2012 it moved to theweekinchess.com.[http://www.theweekinchess.com/chessnews/general/1000-issues-and-a-20th-year-for-twic 1000 issues and a 20th year for TWIC], Mark Crowther, TWIC 1000, 6 January 2014

It contains both chess news, and all the game scores from major events.

TWIC quickly became popular with professional chess players, because it allowed them to quickly get results and game scores, where previously they had relied on print publications.[http://www.theweekinchess.com/html/twic200.html#12 The Week In Chess 200. Mark Crowther's child grows up.], guest article by Mig Greengard in TWIC 200, 7 September 1998[https://www.chess.com/news/view/the-week-in-chess-25-years-mark-crowther 25 Years Of The Week In Chess], Peter Doggers, chess.com, 17 September 2019

TWIC still exists as a weekly newsletter, although for important events the TWIC website is updated daily. It remains a popular site for up-to-date chess news. For instance, it is referenced in [http://gambit.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/01/ivanchuk-wins-and-wins-again-next-stop-bilbao/ The New York Times Chess Blog], 31 August 2008

Throughout its lifetime the website has been solely edited by Mark Crowther.
