Theatre of the Mind is the first studio album by the Canadian rock band Mystery, released in 1996.{{cite web |url=http://www.dprp.net/wp/interviews/?page_id=3887 |title=Interview with Michel St-Pere of Mystery |last=Chelmsford |first=Phil |website=DPRP |access-date=5 November 2021 |url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130103123417/http://www.dprp.net/wp/interviews/?page_id=3887 |archivedate=3 January 2013}} It is also the first album to be released on Michel St-Père's record label Unicorn Records, which was created to promote this album.{{cite magazine |last=Ezpeieta |first=Jesús |date=March 2018 |title=Mystery |issue=165 |magazine=This is Rock |location=Spain |page=19}} There was a major lineup shift following the release of this album: it is the only album to feature Richard Addison, Stéphane Perreault, and Michel Painchaud, as well as the ony album until 2010 to feature Benoît Dupuis.
A remix of the album was released in October 2018 which includes a bonus track.{{cite web |url=https://www.facebook.com/unicorndigital/posts/1982189031842385 |title=1996 MYSTERY - Theatre of the Mind 2018 re-issue |date= October 1, 2018 |access-date= October 2, 2018}}
Release
=Reissues=
When the album was first reissued in 1998 the composition of the artwork was redone by drummer Stéphane Perreault, changing the setting to a desert. The music remained unchanged.
When the 16 track 2 inch master tapes were transferred to digital files for the 2018 edition of the album, two additional songs were on the tapes that were not released on the original album: a rerecorded version of "Heart of Stone", which was included as a bonus track on the rerelease, and another recording of "In my Dreams", both of which were originally recorded for the Mystery EP.{{cite web |url=https://www.facebook.com/notes/mystery/revisiting-early-mystery/1720333464677389/ |title=Revisiting Early MYSTERY |date= December 27, 2017 |access-date= October 2, 2018}}
