Themes
Regarding the conservative politics of the series' main character, creator Steve Marmel stated, "Most of the time you see a conservative on a TV show, he's played as a zealot or a boob. I wanted to do a show where the conservative wasn't the idiot."{{cite web|url=http://spectator.org/articles/50407/right-wing-cartoonery|title=Right Wing Cartoonery|date=16 March 2004|work=spectator.org|access-date=19 March 2017}} Marmel also stated about the show's protagonist, "Brian has passionate opinions about things. He's all in, but he's smart. He believes for what he believes in and fights for it every episode."{{cite web|url=http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2004-03-18/lifestyle/0403160315_1_animation-steve-marmel-pop-culture|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20141018073346/http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2004-03-18/lifestyle/0403160315_1_animation-steve-marmel-pop-culture|url-status=dead|archive-date=October 18, 2014|title=Spike Tv Comedy Tries For Topical Animation|work=sun-sentinel.com|access-date=19 March 2017}} The series satirized both left-wing and right-wing targets. Kevin Kay described the show as having "a conservative bent on politics", though Marmel described his own political views as "raging moderate".
