Critical reception
Larry Flick, Billboard's reviewer, positively reviewed the song, reporting that the "anthemic chorus sounds like it was penned to be chanted in arenas".{{cite magazine|first=Larry|last=Flick|authorlink=Larry Flick|url=https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Music/Billboard/90s/1992/Billboard-1992-02-22.pdf|title=Review: Bryan Adams – Thought I'd Died and Gone to Heaven|magazine=Billboard|date=22 February 1992|access-date=11 February 2022|volume=104|number=8|page=76|location=New York|publisher=Billboard Publications Inc.|via=World Radio History|issn=0006-2510|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220208150501/https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Music/Billboard/90s/1992/Billboard-1992-02-22.pdf|archive-date=8 February 2022}}
