Tidal stripping

Image:NGC2207+IC2163.jpg

Tidal stripping occurs when a larger galaxy pulls stars and other stellar material from a smaller galaxy because of strong tidal forces.{{Cite web|url=http://burro.astr.cwru.edu/JavaLab/cannibal/CannibalTidalStrip.html|title=Background Information|website=burro.astr.cwru.edu|access-date=2018-10-18}}

An example of this scenario is the interacting pair of galaxies NGC 2207 and IC 2163, which are currently in the process of tidal stripping.
