The Time Warp Spitfire Mk V is an American homebuilt aircraft that was designed and produced by Time Warp Aircraft of Lakeland, Florida, introduced in 1996 at Sun 'n Fun. The aircraft is a 60% scale version of the Second World War British Supermarine Spitfire.
Design and development
The Spitfire Mk V features a cantilever low-wing, a single-seat enclosed cockpit under a bubble canopy, conventional landing gear and a single engine in tractor configuration.
The aircraft is made from wood and composites. Its {{convert|23.00|ft|m|1|abbr=on}} span wing, mounts flaps and has a wing area of {{convert|81.66|sqft|m2|abbr=on}}. The standard engine used is the {{convert|100|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} Geo Storm 1.6 liter liquid-cooled automotive conversion powerplant.
The Spitfire Mk V has a typical empty weight of {{convert|699|lb|kg|abbr=on}} and a gross weight of {{convert|1100|lb|kg|abbr=on}}, giving a useful load of {{convert|500|lb|kg|abbr=on}}. With full fuel of {{convert|27|u.s.gal}} the payload for the pilot and baggage is {{convert|338|lb|kg|abbr=on}}.
The manufacturer estimated the construction time from the supplied kit as 600 hours.
Operational history
By 1998 the company reported that one aircraft had been completed and was flying.
