Club career

Born in Arucas, Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Tonono made his professional debut with hometown's UD Las Palmas, his first competitive appearance coming on 18 February 1962 at Real Murcia. Tonono amassed top-tier totals of 313 matches and two goals. International career

Tonono made his debut for Spain on 1 October 1967 in an UEFA Euro 1968 qualifier against Czechoslovakia, a 1–0 loss in Prague in which the Himno de Riego was played before kick-off instead of that of Francoist Spain.{{cite news|url=http://deportes.elpais.com/deportes/2012/06/18/eurocopa_futbol/1340045428_588217.html|title="¡O lo quitan o no salimos!"|trans-title="Either you take that or we don't come out!"|newspaper=El País|first=Juan José|last=Mateo|language=Spanish|date=18 June 2012|accessdate=8 February 2016}} He did not appear, however, in any major international tournament, as the national team did not qualify for any during his international spell.
