Herbert Anton Hilger (born Bloeth; 3 February 1938 – 16 February 2023), known professionally as Tony Marshall, was a German schlager and opera singer. Famous since 1971 with his hit song "Schöne Maid", he also played in some comedies and was often seen on television.
Early life and education
Born in Baden-Baden, Marshall trained as an opera singer in Karlsruhe, graduating in 1965.
Career
Rather than embarking on a career in opera, in 1971, Marshall had his first hit single with "Schöne Maid". A year later, an English-language version was also released, titled "Pretty Maid".{{cite web|title=Tony Marshall - Schöne Maid, hast Du heut' für mich Zeit| date=14 July 2007 |url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEUsHvZtbVE|publisher=youtube.com|accessdate=26 October 2013}}{{cite web|last=Leggett|first=Steve|title=Tony Marshall|url=http://www.allmusic.com/artist/tony-marshall-mn0000502709|publisher=allmusic.com|accessdate=26 October 2013}}{{cite web|title=Tony Marshall|url=https://music.apple.com/au/artist/tony-marshall/16229114|publisher=apple.com|access-date=26 October 2013}}{{cite web|title=German Singer Tony Marshall entertains the crowds at Papillon|url=http://news.visitaruba.com/news/german-singer-tony-marshall-entertains-the-crowds-at-papillion/|publisher=viisitaruba.com|accessdate=26 October 2013}}

In February 2009, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Tahiti Nui.{{cite web |url=http://www.france-phaleristique.com/ordre_tahiti_nui_titulaires.htm |title=LISTE DES TITULAIRES |publisher= |date=21 July 2021 |access-date=22 October 2022}}
