Career
Born in the village of Kitahata in Saga Prefecture, Ide graduated from the Tokyo Higher School of Arts (now the Faculty of Engineering of Chiba University).{{cite web |title=井手俊郎（いでとしろう） |url=https://www.city.karatsu.lg.jp/bunka/tanbo/jinbutsu/ide.html |website=唐津市 |publisher=Karatsu City |accessdate=13 April 2019 |language=ja}} He initially worked as a magazine illustrator and advertising designer, but through an introduction from the producer Sanezumi Fujimoto, he joined the Toho Studios, first working as a theater manager.{{cite web |title=井手俊郎（イデ トシロウ） |url=https://kotobank.jp/word/%E4%BA%95%E6%89%8B%20%E4%BF%8A%E9%83%8E-1638601 |website=Kotobank |publisher=Asahi Shinbun |accessdate=13 April 2019 |language=ja}} After serving during World War II, he rejoined Toho and debuted as a screenwriter in 1949 with Aoi sanmyaku, which was a major hit. He was known for his adaptations of literary works. He also wrote scripts for television.
