Tower of Amfikleia

The Tower of Amfikleia is a late medieval tower at Amfikleia, in Phthiotis, central Greece.{{sfn|Bon|1937|p=148}}{{sfn|Koder|Hild|1976|p=122}}{{sfn|Lock|1986|p=122}}

Amfikleia (formerly Dadi), occupies a strategic location on the northern slopes of Mount Parnassus and south of the Boeotic Cephissus.{{sfn|Koder|Hild|1976|p=122}} The tower is located on the site of the acropolis of ancient Amphicleia, which today is occupied by the cemetery of the modern settlement.{{sfn|Koder|Hild|1976|p=122}}{{sfn|Lock|1986|p=122}}

The tower measures {{convert|8.5|m|ft}} by {{convert|10.5|m|ft}}, making extensive use of spolia ashlar blocks from the acropolis for the first six courses of masonry at its base (corresponding to the ground floor) and then as quoins.{{sfn|Bon|1937|p=148}}{{sfn|Lock|1986|p=122}} In total, the tower survives to a height of about {{convert|8|m|ft}}.{{sfn|Lock|1986|p=122}} The walls are {{convert|1.8|m|ft}} thick at its base, and thin about {{convert|20|cm|in}} at each of the two surviving above-ground floors.{{sfn|Bon|1937|p=148}} The first floor is supported by ledges offset from the north and south walls, extending from the ground to about {{convert|2.5|m|ft}} in height.{{sfn|Lock|1986|p=122}}

The entrance was {{convert|3|m|ft}} above ground, at the level of the first floor, on the southern face of the tower near its eastern corner.
