The Toyota GZ engine family consists of a single model, the 1GZ-FE. This engine is used as the powerplant for the second generation Century limousine from 1997 to 2017.
1GZ-FE
The 1GZ-FE is a {{convert|4996|cc|L|1|abbr=on}} 48-valve DOHC V12 engine with variable valve timing (VVT-i). Bore is 81 mm and stroke is 80.8 mm, with a compression ratio of 10.5:1. The official power output advertised in Japan per the gentlemen's agreement is {{convert|280|PS|kW hp PS|0|abbr=on|order=out}} at 5,200 rpm, though it was advertised as {{convert|220|kW|hp PS|0|abbr=on}} in export markets. Peak torque of {{convert|481|Nm|0|abbr=on}} is at 4,000 rpm with over {{convert|400|Nm|0|abbr=on}} available from as little as 1200 rpm. The Electronic fuel-injection system is controlled by two ECUs, one for each bank of six cylinders. The engine is capable of running on either bank should a malfunction occur.{{cite web |url=http://toyota.jp:80/century/safety/active/ |title=トヨタ センチュリー {{!}} 安全装備 {{!}} 予防安全 |trans-title=Toyota Century Safety Equipment Preventive Safety |work=Goo-net |language=Japanese |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150508110704/http://toyota.jp/century/safety/active/ |archive-date=2015-05-08 |url-status=dead }}
In 2010 the standard engine was revised in order to meet tough fuel economy and emissions standards, reducing power slightly and peak torque to {{convert|460|Nm|0|abbr=on}} although this torque figure had been advertised in export markets since at least 2004.{{cite web |url=http://www.goo-net.com/catalog/TOYOTA/CENTURY/index.html |title=センチュリー(トヨタ)のモデル・グレード別カタログ情報 |trans-title=Century (Toyota) model· Catalog information by grade |work=Goo-net |language=Japanese |access-date=2017-10-15}}
