Transdev Sydney Ferries, formerly Harbour City Ferries, is a subsidiary of Transdev Australasia, and is the operator of ferry services in the Sydney Ferries network since July 2012. It currently operates the ferry network under a contract until June 2028. As part of the operation contract, Transdev Sydney Ferries leases both the Balmain Maintenance Facility and the fleet from the government agency Sydney Ferries.[http://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/b2b/publications/annual_reports/sydney-ferries-annual-report-2012.pdf Annual Report 30 June 2012] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150413100419/http://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/b2b/publications/annual_reports/sydney-ferries-annual-report-2012.pdf |date=13 April 2015 }} Sydney Ferries

History

In 2011, the NSW government decided to contract out ferry services to the private sector. Harbour City Ferries was formed as a 50/50 joint venture between Transfield Services (later Broadspectrum) and Veolia Transdev (later Transdev). In May 2012, Harbour City Ferries was announced as the successful tenderer to operate the services on a seven-year contract starting 28 July 2012.{{Cite news|website=news.com.au|url=http://www.news.com.au/business/breaking-news/transfield-jv-wins-sydney-ferries-contract/story-e6frfkur-1226345550113|title=Transfield JV wins Sydney Ferries contract|date=3 May 2012|access-date=27 May 2023|archive-date=7 May 2012|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120507064153/http://www.news.com.au/business/breaking-news/transfield-jv-wins-sydney-ferries-contract/story-e6frfkur-1226345550113|url-status=live}}[http://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/content/sydney-ferries Harbour City Ferries] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130305075644/http://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/content/sydney-ferries |date=5 March 2013 }} Transport for NSW{{cite web|year=2013|title=Harbour City Ferries|publisher=Harbour City Ferries|url=http://www.harbourcityferries.com.au/|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130409123815/http://www.harbourcityferries.com.au/|url-status=dead|archive-date=9 April 2013|access-date=9 April 2013}}[http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/private-operator-to-take-control-of-ferry-services-20120502-1xzfp.html Private Operator to take control of ferry services] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140504053641/http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/private-operator-to-take-control-of-ferry-services-20120502-1xzfp.html |date=4 May 2014 }} Sydney Morning Herald 3 May 2012[http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/steady-as-he-goes-ferries-sail-into-private-hands-20120727-22zm9.html Steady as he goes: ferries sail into private hands] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20121031054441/http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/steady-as-he-goes-ferries-sail-into-private-hands-20120727-22zm9.html |date=31 October 2012 }} Sydney Morning Herald 28 July 2012
