Writing and recording

Transitions is the band's first release with their new label, Hopeless. Vocalist Shane Told has always been a long-time fan of the label and the albums they release. Prior to the announcement of the EP, Told had stated in interviews that the band had already written 16 songs for a new album, much more than the average Silverstein album.{{cite web |last=Harper |first=Kate |url=http://www.chartattack.com/news/86566/new-silverstein-album-coming-sooner-than-later |title=New Silverstein Album Coming "Sooner Than Later" |publisher=CHARTattack |date=2010-06-21 |accessdate=2012-03-12 |url-status=usurped |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20100625235922/http://www.chartattack.com/news/86566/new-silverstein-album-coming-sooner-than-later |archivedate=2010-06-25 }} The Transitions EP has two songs that will appear on the band's 2011 full-length album, as well as three B-sides.{{cite web |url=http://hopelessrecords.com/welcome-silverstein-to-the-hopeless-family/ |title=Blog Archive » Welcome Silverstein to the Hopeless Family! |publisher=Hopeless Records |date=2010-11-15 |accessdate=2012-03-12 |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120303205930/http://hopelessrecords.com/welcome-silverstein-to-the-hopeless-family/ |archivedate=2012-03-03 }}
