Transvaal Rangers

Raaffs Horse, or Raaff's Transvaal Rangers, was an irregular unit raised by Cmdt Pieter Johannes Edward Raaff{{cite book |last=Paget |first=Henry |author-link=Henry Paget, 7th Marquess of Anglesey |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=59zRAwAAQBAJ |title=A History of the British Cavalry 1816-1919 |date=1982 |publisher=Pen and Sword |isbn=0-436-27327-6 |publication-place=London |page=196 |quote=Transvaal Rangers, was formed by a Boer named Pieter Raaf.}} with a strength of approximately 140. The Transvaal Rangers enlisted both European and Coloured personnel in its ranks, and recruited large numbers from the Kimberley diamond fields. It served in the 4 July 1879 Battle of Ulundi - the final battle of the Anglo-Zulu War as well as the earlier battles of Hlobane and Kambula.
