Music career

Tricarico rose to fame in 2000, when he released his debut single, "Io sono Francesco", which hit number one in Italy, selling more than 60,000 copies and generating some controversy following its lyrical content, which included an insult to a school teacher and was therefore censored by some radio stations.{{cite web|url=http://www.repubblica.it/online/spettacoli/tricariconew/tricariconew/tricariconew.html|work=la Repubblica|language=Italian|accessdate=23 August 2014|archivedate=3 July 2011|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110703110832/http://www.repubblica.it/online/spettacoli/tricariconew/tricariconew/tricariconew.html|title=Il primo album di Tricarico in anteprima su Repubblica.it|author=Carlo Moretti}}{{cite web|url=http://ricerca.repubblica.it/repubblica/archivio/repubblica/2001/06/05/tricarico-un-drago-singolo.html|work=la Repubblica|language=Italian|accessdate=23 August 2014|date=5 June 2001|title=Tricarico, un Drago singolo|author=Carlo Moretti}} Tricarico's self-titled debut album was released two years later.
