Trieenea is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the family Scrophulariaceae.{{cite web |title=Trieenea Hilliard {{!}} Plants of the World Online {{!}} Kew Science |url=https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:925166-1 |website=Plants of the World Online |access-date=12 March 2021 |language=en}} It is also in Tribe Leucophylleae.
It was named in reference to renowned South African botanist and plant collector, Elsie Elizabeth Esterhuysen, the prefix Tri- and the three letters e in the generic epithet being for the three initials of her name.{{cite web |title=Plant Names T-Z {{!}} The Eponym Dictionary of Southern African Plants {{!}} California Plant Names: Latin and Greek Meanings and Derivations |url=http://www.calflora.net/southafrica/1T-Z.html |website=The Eponym Dictionary of Southern African Plants |access-date=18 May 2021 |language=en}} It was first described and published in Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh Vol.45 on page 489 (1988, published in 1989).
It is native to the Northern, Western and Eastern Cape Provinces within the Republic of South Africa.
