Tropentarn ("tropical camouflage") is the name of a lighter weight cotton-polyester fabric printed with the German 5-color Flecktarn camouflage pattern used by the Bundeswehr for their military uniforms.
Uniforms made in this fabric are for service in warmer, tropical regions. Because of the nature of the material, the colorway of the Flecktarn pattern differs from the colorway of the heavier weight Flecktarn uniforms, appearing more lighter, brighter and with greater screen separation.{{cite web |title=Uniformen der Bundeswehr |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20160704210641/http://www.bundeswehr.de/portal/a/bwde/!ut/p/c4/NYxNC8IwEET_UbYBxeKtoRfBg_RS6y1plrCQj7Ju7cUfb3JwBt7lDQMvqM32Q8EKlWwjPGFZ6eoO5Q6PKu1RKKEnqxxFjxxsRCbMyle8JbD1CHN7qeu1ZJRGwSxUWbUUVlthic3szNUo8rB0ejT60v2jv_38GO6mP53Hm5lgS2n4AU7POo0!/ |archivedate=2016-07-04 |url=https://www.bundeswehr.de/portal/poc/bwde?uri=ci%3Abw.bwde.multimedia.bildergalerien.dienstgrade&de.conet.contentintegrator.portlet.current.id=01DB170000000001%7C8WPALB845DIBR |publisher=Bundeswehr |accessdate=22 August 2016 |language=German}}
Wüstentarn ("desert camouflage") is often mistakenly called Tropentarn by non-German speakers which is instead a 3 color pattern used by the Bundeswehr in arid and desert environments and also printed on Tropentarn fabric.{{cite web|url=https://www.zentauron.de/en/content/64-types-of-fabric-used-by-zentauron|title=Fabrics used by Zentauron}}

Tropentarn is Bundeswehr 5-color Flecktarn printed on lighter weight fabric. Colors consist of dark green, grey-green, red brown, and black over a light green or tan base depending on the manufacturer. On the tropentarn fabric the brown screen is more of a "rust" color and the black screen contrasts sharply against the dark green and grey-green screens.{{Cite web |title=Flecktarn-different color versions |url=https://iacmc.forumotion.com/t2251-flecktarn-different-color-versions |access-date=2023-06-13 |website=iacmc.forumotion.com |language=en}}{{Cite web |title=Flecktarn Color Palette |url=https://www.color-hex.com/color-palette/87999 |access-date=2023-06-13 |website=www.color-hex.com |language=en}}
Outside of Germany, the term is sometimes erroneously used for Bundeswehr 3-color Wüstentarn desert camouflage. Both patterns are printed on the same fabric type.German Bundeswehr Wustentarn URL=https://easterncostume.com/wardrobe/foreign-military/german-bundeswehr-wustentarn/{{better source needed|date=February 2025}}
