Production

The design was built by Tylercraft in the United States, starting in 1961 and ending about 1980.{{cite web|url = https://sailboatdata.com/builder/tylercraft-usa|title = Tylercraft|access-date = 4 March 2022|last= McArthur| first = Bruce |work = sailboatdata.com|year = 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220304004139/https://sailboatdata.com/builder/tylercraft-usa|archive-date= 4 March 2022|url-status= live}}

Design

The Tylercraft 24 is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood trim. It has a masthead sloop rig, a spooned raked stem, a nearly-plumb transom, a skeg-mounted rudder controlled by a tiller and a fixed fin keel or twin bilge keels. There were several different models marketed over time, including a daysailer, weekend cruiser and a racer. Displacements varied from model to model, but typical is {{convert|4000|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} with {{convert|1450|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of iron ballast.

The boat has a draft of {{convert|2.00|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the standard twin keels and {{convert|3.75|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the optional fin keel. There was also a centerboard version, with a draft of {{convert|3.75|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the centerboard extended and {{convert|2.00|ft|m|abbr=on}} with it retracted, allowing operation in shallow water or ground transportation on a trailer.

The boat is normally fitted with a small {{convert|4|to|8|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}} outboard motor mounted in astern well, for docking and maneuvering. Starting in 1965, some boats were equipped with an inboard Wankel engine.

The interior design varied from year to year. A typical layout has sleeping accommodation for four people, with a double "V"-berth in the bow cabin and two straight settee berths in the main cabin. The galley is located on the port side amidships and is equipped with a sink. The head is located opposite the galley on the starboard side. Cabin headroom is {{convert|72|in|cm|0|abbr=on}}.

The design has a hull speed of {{convert|6.0|kn|km/h|abbr=on}}.

Operational history

The boat was at one time supported by a class club, Tylercraft sailboats.{{cite web|url= https://sailboatdata.com/association/tylercraft-sailboats-on-yahoo|title= Tylercraft sailboats on Yahoo|access-date = 4 March 2022|last= McArthur| first = Bruce |work = sailboatdata.com|year = 2022|archive-url= https://archive.today/20220304004123/https://sailboatdata.com/association/tylercraft-sailboats-on-yahoo|archive-date= 4 March 2022|url-status= dead}}
