UFC Fight Night: Mir vs. Duffee (also known as UFC Fight Night 71) was a mixed martial arts event held on July 15, 2015, at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California.{{cite news|url=http://www.foxsports.com/ufc/story/frank-mir-vs-todd-duffee-will-main-event-ufc-fight-night-in-san-diego-040815|title=Frank Mir vs. Todd Duffee will main event UFC Fight Night in San Diego|work=foxsports.com|author=Damon Martin|date=2015-04-08|access-date=2015-04-08}}

Background

The event was headlined by a heavyweight bout between former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir and touted prospect Todd Duffee.

Bobby Green was expected to face Al Iaquinta at the event. However, Green pulled out of the fight on June 17 due to an ACL tear and was replaced by former WEC and Strikeforce Lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez.{{cite news|url=http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/6/17/8802075/gilbert-melendez-agrees-to-fight-al-iaquinta-at-ufc-fight-night-san|title=Gilbert Melendez agrees to fight Al Iaquinta at UFC Fight Night San Diego|publisher=mmafighting.com|author=Ariel Helwani|date=2015-06-17|access-date=2015-06-17}} On July 6, it was announced that Melendez tested positive for testosterone metabolites of an exogenous origin at UFC 188. He denied using anything, but stated that he is "responsible for the products he uses and their implications". Melendez was suspended one year, effective from the date of his last bout. As a result, he was pulled from the fight against Iaquinta, who in turn, was also removed from the card.{{cite web|url=http://www.ufc.com/news/UFC-Statement-on-Gilbert-Melendez|title=UFC statement on Gilbert Melendez|publisher=ufc.com|author=UFC press release|date=2015-07-06|access-date=2015-07-06}}{{cite web|url=http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/With-Gilbert-Melendez-Suspended-Al-Iaquinta-Scratched-from-UFC-Fight-Night-in-San-Diego-88657|title=With Gilbert Melendez suspended, Al Iaquinta scratched from UFC Fight Night in San Diego|publisher=sherdog.com|author=Staff|date=2015-07-06|access-date=2015-07-06}}

A featherweight bout between Rani Yahya and Masanori Kanehara initially slated for UFC Fight Night 70, was shifted to this event, as several participants on that card were unable to secure travel visas in time for that event restricting their travel to the United States.{{cite web|url=http://mmajunkie.com/2015/06/visa-issues-force-massive-shuffling-at-next-weeks-ufc-fight-night-70-event|title=Visa issues force massive shuffling at next week's UFC Fight Night 70 event |publisher=mmajunkie.com|author=Staff|date=2015-06-19|access-date=2015-06-19}}

Edgar Garcia was expected to face Andrew Craig at the event. However, Garcia was forced out of the bout with an injury and was replaced by promotional newcomer Lyman Good.{{cite web|url=http://themmareport.com/2015/06/lyman-good-signs-with-ufc-replaces-edgar-garcia-at-ufc-fight-night-71-against-andrew-craig/|title=Lyman Good signs with UFC, replaces Edgar Garcia at UFC Fight Night 71 against Andrew Craig |publisher=themmareport.com|author=Staff|date=2015-06-24|access-date=2015-06-24}}

Doo Ho Choi was expected to face Sam Sicilia at the event. However, Choi pulled out of the bout in late June after suffering broken ribs in training and was replaced by Yaotzin Meza.{{cite web|url=http://www.ufc.com/news/Choi-Injured-Meza-to-Face-Sicilia|title=Choi Injured, Meza to Face Sicilia|publisher=UFC.com|author=Thomas Gerbasi|date=2015-07-01|access-date=2015-07-01}}
